Xmas Trial 2018 – Issues with Route Alterations
Thanks to everyone that attended the Neath MC Xmas Trial this year. Unfortunately, we had an issue this year when marking out the Trial. As with all clubs, we are only a small team of volunteers who give up our time to go out in all weathers and put sticks in the ground, route marking, etc so that you can have a good days safe riding. This year, 1 day before the trial we, unfortunately had to spend even more of our xmas time re-setting many of the sections as they had been altered. The alterations were to the White (expert) route. As far as we know, no other courses were altered. Many of the sticks had been moved, which made the course easier, and had been practiced on. Also many of the stones, etc that we had set out were all moved away. Some of them were pretty big and would have required more than one person to move then.
It’s disappointing to think that, after all the efforts made this sort of thing can happen. Not only does it mean that we had to spend even more time up the farm re-working the sections, but there is a risk element involved. The Clerk of the Course takes on a big responsibility for every trial run, and if a rider or spectator is injured then they are the first port of call. If a section, or any piece of the trial has been altered it could put someone personally at risk.
This has now meant that, we may look to run less events in the calendar as the struggle to find clark of the course volunteers will increase.
